YEREVAN. – During its special meeting on Saturday, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Armenia denied the “Union of Informed Citizens” NGO’s petition, which required to stop the distribution of candy by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).

Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan read the CEC’s respective decision, which specifically states that the RPA’s parliamentary election symbols on candies are campaign material, and therefore they cannot be considered as something that generates material interest among voters.

As per Mukuchyan, the CEC holds that the political party has the right to freely distribute campaign material.
The parliamentary election in Armenia will be conducted on April 2.
