YEREVAN. – The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on Monday attended the groundbreaking of a thermal power station to be built in the country.

The station will be constructed not far from the operating Yerevan Thermal Power Plant, in the capital city.

Minister of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources Ashot Manukyan noted that a considerable part of the electricity, which the new thermal power station will produce, will be exported.

The construction of this station will be completed in 2019.

To note, the construction of a new and powerful Iran-Georgia electricity transmission line—via Armenia—also is expected to be completed by that time.

As a result, the electricity transmission capacity of Armenia will increase by more than three times.
