YEREVAN. - Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC (ENA) is going to introduce smart electronic meters for the residents of Yerevan's southern regions, Director General of the company, Karen Harutyunyan, told journalists on Wednesday (photos).

The work aimed at their installation is underway in Erebuni and Nubarashen districts of Yerevan. ''We are moving by an investment program, which the Public Services Regulatory Commission has approved. The new meters will enable to oversee the electricity expenses and save time for our colleagues to take out the meter readings. The meters will automatically send them to our servers,'' Harutyunyan said.

In fact, these meters are produced in Yerevan, he added.

Their first consignments are already being installed on irrigation pumps.  Moreover, it is planned to install them on all the 930 pumps prior to the beginning of the irrigation season.

ENA wants to install such meters also in the freshwater system. Currently, talks are held with Veolia company, which used to serve only Yerevan before but has become the only water supply operator of the republic since January 1.
