This year Belarus’s celebrated the Freedom Day with unprecedented brutal detentions. On Saturday, March 25, in Minsk, the rally in which several thousand people took part, took place without the opposition leaders and in uncommon places, TUT.BY reports.

The only legitimate "opposition" point, Bangalore Square, this year hasn’t been filled with protesters. People tried to get together near the Academy of Sciences and Oktyabr movie theater, but the riot police did not even let them to stop there, checking all their documents and sending away all the passengers who did not want to leave the square. The metro trains did not stop at the three metro stations: "Pobedy Square", "Ya Kolas Square", "Academy of Sciences".

The avenue and nearby streets in some places were blocked with paddy wagons and riot police with shields. There took place mass detentions all over the avenue, as well as in Kolas Square, where the police encircled the protesters.

The final "cleansing" took place at about 3:30 pm, an hour and a half after the rally began. The police pulled people out of the column that was moving to October Square. The police also detained numerous journalists. Neither their status, nor their editorial authorities helped them to escape the cleansing.
