YEREVAN. - The construction of Vedi water reservoir will kick off in the near future, Deputy Chairman of Armenia’s State Committee of Water Economy, Volodya Narimanyan, told Armenian News – NEWS.am Monday.

The entire construction documentation has already been completed, and in the near future the contractor—an Armenian-Iranian consortium—will launch the work. The water reservoir in Armenia’s Ararat province, which will have a volume of 75 million cubic meters, will be designed for irrigative purposes. It is built by the 75 million euro loan provided by the French Development Agency.

As to the Kaps reservoir in Shirak province, the drawing up of its feasibility study is being completed thanks to the support of the potential donor, the German KfW bank.

The volume of this reservoir, which is also irrigative, should make up 25 million cubic meters.

The water reservoirs are constructed for collecting and keeping spring meltwater in order to reduce the load of Lake Sevan during the irrigation season.

Talks are held with the Japan International Cooperation Agency and Kuwait Development Fund on constructing another two reservoirs accordingly in Yeghvard and Mastara.
