The US boycotts conference on nuclear weapons, launched by the UN GA, announced the  US permanent representative to the UN Nikki Haley.

“We would love to have a ban on nuclear weapons but in this day and time we cannot honestly say that we can protect our people by allowing the bad actors to have them and those of us who are good trying to keep the peace and safety not to have them," Haley told reporters.

In December, the UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution on convening a conference to negotiate the legally binding document on the prohibition of nuclear weapons, which would lead to its complete abolition. The United States opposed that resolution, but nevertheless the five-day conference has launched in New York on March 27.

“As a mom, as a daughter, there is nothing that I want more for my family than a world with no nuclear weapons,” Haley said. “But we have to be realistic.” "Is there anyone who believes that North Korea would agree to a ban on nuclear weapons?”
