YEREVAN. – There are reports that the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) will not permit Tsarukyan Bloc—which is led by opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Chairman and businessman MP Gagik Tsarukyan—to defend the votes it will get on Sunday’s parliamentary election, according to Hraparak (Square) newspaper.

“Seeing the daily growing standing of Tsarukyan, an agreement was reached, during the last Tsarukyan-[Armenia President and RPA Chairman Serzh] Sargsyan talk, that Tsarukyan be given his ‘due,’ and the remaining votes be transferred to the RPA.

“Such a directive has been handed down to the RPA-PAP members of the provincial election commissions. If the limit [of Tsarukyan Bloc] is up during the counting [of the votes], Tsarukyan Bloc’s [remaining] votes will be given on the RPA district.

“[But] Hraparak’s interlocutor did not wish to reveal what percentage the limit makes up,” wrote Hraparak.
