Famous French-Armenian singer Charles Aznabour said he  had very close relations in family, therefore the history, roots are important for him.

Legendary chansonnier Charles Aznavour told “Chastny Korrespondent” newspaper the story of his family.

“Of course, and not once. The last time I was in Akhaltsikhe in 2012 with a concert, my daughter Katya accompanied me. We had very close relations in family, therefore our history, roots are important for me. Unfortunately, nearly all my relatives on my mother's side were murdered during Armenian Genocide. But I met my relatives on father's side. During the last visit to Akhaltsikhe, the locals showed the place where my father's house was supposed to be,” Aznavour noted.

Remembering the father, Aznavour noted that his parents were role model for him and his sister Aida.

“Yes, my sister Aida and I were brought up like this. Destiny of our parents who escaped from Genocide, and their behavior were an example for us. They often recalled the courage and kindness of an Italian captain, who saved them from death during their escape from Constantinople. They were already on the ship, when one of the Turkish soldiers heard the Armenian speech and ran to catch them. But the captain of the ship stood up for my parents. I think, they managed to survive thanks to the help and kindness of many people, so they always tried to help everyone. “

According to Aznavour, they were very poor but their door were always open.
