President of Poland Andrzej Duda praised the contribution of Armenian people to Polish society and culture during a meeting with the Armenian community at the presidential palace Wednesday.

At the meeting, which marked the 650th anniversary of the formation of Armenian community in the country, Duda noted that Armenians began arriving in Poland after Polish king Casimir the Great granted special privileges to Armenians in 1367, establishing the first Armenian diocese in Poland, Radio Poland reports.

Apart from this, a parchment testifying the privileges accorded by the Polish king to Armenian Bishop Gregory was displayed at the presidential palace.

According to the President, the contribution made by Armenians to Poland “is invaluable and penetrates practically all of social life, because they were both excellent farmers and created [sections] of the Polish intelligentsia, they were wonderful craftsmen, merchants."
