Chairman of the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) of Turkey, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, stated that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan knew in advance about the coup attempt that had occurred in the country on the evening of July 15 of the year past.

Speaking about the pressure against the media and politicians after this failed coup, Kılıçdaroğlu stated that there were about 200 members of the Gülen movement—which led by US-based Turkish cleric Fethullah Gülen—within the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), and that these persons use the ByLock smartphone messaging application, which is considered the means of communication between the members of this movement, according to Sözcü newspaper of Turkey.

The CHP leader claimed that all the facts showed that Erdoğan knew of the coup attempt and he had kept it under control.

Ankara blames Fethullah Gülen and his movement for orchestrating the said coup attempt.
