YEREVAN. – Armenia’s PM Karen Karapetyan and Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan played major role in the victory of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) in Sunday's parliamentary elections, Caucasus Institute Deputy Director, political scientist Sergey Minasyan told reporters on Tuesday,  emphasizing the importance of the RPA's rebranding.

According to the political scientist, such results of Armenian parliamentary elections were predicted.

“Only the results of the Armenian Revival party were unexpected for me. I thought that Arthur Baghdasaryan's [Armenian Revival Party chairman] party would be able to overcome 5% barrier, taking into account the administrative resource and other circumstances. The Yelk [Way Out] Bloc showed quite good results,” Minasyan noted.

He added that Armenian ex-president Levon Ter-Petrosyan's last interview played a positive role and increased ARF Dashnaktsutyun party’s electorate by 1%.

The winners of Sunday’s parliamentary elections are the Yelk [Way Out] Bloc – 7.77%, the Tsaurkyan Bloc – 27.32%, the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) – 49.12% and Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party – 6.57%.
