Arriving in Saudi Arabia, British Prime Minister Theresa May eschewed the headscarf women must wear according to Saudi Arabia’s strict Muslim dress codes, instead leaving her head uncovered as she was greeted by officials.

“By going without the scarf - something the [UK] Foreign Office advises women visiting the country adopt - May made good on her promise to represent women’s rights,” wrote The Telegraph daily newspaper of Great Britain.

May was wearing just a scarf and a dark blue pantsuit with a long blazer.

The newspaper recalled that former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher likewise had not worn a headscarf during her visit to Saudi Arabia, and preferred to wear solely a hat and a long dress with long sleeves.
