U.S. President Donald Trump signed a short-term funding bill to keep the government functioning through next Friday, May 6, the White House noted.
It buys lawmakers time to wrap up negotiations on a larger, $1 trillion package to fund government operations through September 30, the end of the government's 2017 budget year, CNBC reported.
If the budget was not adopted before Friday's midnight deadline, it could lead to "closing" of the government due to the lack of financing.
