The embassy of Armenia in Lithuania on Thursday organized a special screening of The Promise, a new movie about Armenian Genocide, in the Lithuanian capital city of Vilnius.

In his remarks before the screening, Armenian Ambassador Tigran Mkrtchyan said this is the first time that a film on Armenian Genocide was shot in Hollywood, since all previous attempts had failed due to the pressure by Turkish authorities.

The ambassador stressed that, “This film is not only about the past; it’s also about our present. It’s about resisting evil, brotherly love, and unconditional love.”

Also, the Armenian diplomat said history has proved that, despite Adolf Hitler’s oft-quoted remark, today the whole world remembers the extermination of Armenians.

“Genocide remembrance and recognition is driven through education,” noted Ambassador Mkrtchyan. “And arts, including cinematography, are essential in enhancing cognition.”

The special screening of The Promise was followed by a reception.
