YEREVAN. - Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly (NA) Ara Babloyan on Friday chaired the inaugural session of the NA Council, the NA Public Relations Department informed Armenian News – NEWS.am.

The NA Council is composed of the NA Speaker, his three deputies, one representative from each faction and chairmen of standing committees. It operates pursuant to a Regulation and the Working Procedure approved upon the decision thereof.

At the outset of the meeting, the Council discussed and approved the draft decision “On approving the Working Procedure of NA Council,” following which the draft decision of the Council “On increasing the number of standing committee experts in NA of Armenia” was discussed.

Considering the load and supervision functions of the committees, which have joined each other, Speaker Babloyan proposed to increase the number of experts.

“I don’t want to personalize this issue. Currently the greatest burden is mine, since I have made redundant 22 advisors and assistants in my staff, leaving 6 of them,” he noted.

Babloyan also noted that the issue of increasing the number of experts per necessity will be discussed in the future.

The Council members underscored the importance of the continuous capacity development of the parliamentary experts and implementation of practical steps to this end.

Summing up the results of the session, NA Speaker Ara Babloyan said: “The greatest burden is mine. I have inherited a large staff—advisors, assistants—and now I tell them I do not work with them. Let’s “fasten the belts.” Let’s not put anyone in a bad situation and not label anyone. Let’s move forward honestly.”
