YEREVAN. – The Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies of Armenia, Vahan Martirosyan, on Monday met with Alexander Misharin, First Vice-President of the Russian Railways company that has assumed the asset management of the Armenian railways, and Sergey Valko, Director General of the South Caucasus Railway company.

Martirosyan stressed the importance of raising the quality of train passenger service, the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Misharin, for his part, said raising the quality of train passenger service was a priority for them, too. Also, he underscored the past investments, especially toward railway infrastructure development, and expressed confidence that this work will be ongoing.

The Armenian minister, in turn, presented the achievements in pilot multimodal transport—also known as combined transport, is the transportation of goods under a single contract, but with at least two different means of transport—via Armenia, and expressed the hope that there will be considerable respective growth by the year’s end. 

The Russian Railways company official, for his part, said he believed that Armenia has very high potential as a transit country for rail freight.
