French President Emmanuel Macron is holding his first face-to-face talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin near Paris, amid tensions over the conflicts in Syria and Ukraine, The Local France reported.

They met at the ornate Grand Trianon Palace at Versailles, the two leaders greeted each other and shook hands.

Negotiations are held behind closed doors.

It is planned that after the meeting the presidents will answer journalists' questions at a press conference. As earlier Kremlin noted, the bilateral relations, and also fight against terrorism and Ukrainian settlement will become the main subjects of the discussion.

In Versailles, Macron and Putin will inaugurate an exhibition marking 300 years of Franco-Russian ties since the visit of Russia's Peter the Great to France in 1717.
