Armen Saghyan, 22, has already managed to become a hero.

In 2013-2015, he joined the Artsakh armed forces in Hadrut.  During the attack of the adversary, he risked his life and took out the body of his killed commander form the neutral zone, for which he was later awarded with the Medal “For Courage.”

“It was the night of 27 May 2014. We were on a night vigil in the outpost. My friend Lavrent and me were in a trench. The commander came up and I wanted to report on the situation but he told us to continue the service,” Saghyan said.

Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Garik Balayan had already started carrying out engineering work on his own when the adversary’s bullet hit him. The mortally wounded Lieutenant Colonel fell in the neutral zone. Armen immediately rushed to help the commander. “Then I didn’t realize he was gone. I thought the bullet had hit him in the shoulder,” Saghyan noted.

Armen doesn’t consider his action as heroism. “That is a sense of friendship, humanism. Much has changed in me after this incident,” he said.
