Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan’s recent anti-Israeli statements in Lebanon were official Ankara’s message of loyalty to the Islamic World, Stepan Safaryan, Chairman of the Heritage parliamentary faction, told NEWS.am.

The disagreements within the Washington-Ankara Tel Aviv triangle should be viewed in long-term prospects. “Ankara’s relations with Washington and Tel Avid will certainly experience a decline, as Turkey’s foreign policy runs counter to the interest of the United States and Israel,” he said. In this context, Turkey is seeking closer relations with Russia. However, problems may arise if the interests of Moscow and Washington clash.

As regards the Armenia-related issues amid the present geopolitical situation, Safaryan pointed out an enhanced role of the Armenian factor worldwide. “Armenia might have benefited from the situation if it had not initiated Armenian-Turkish reconciliation process,” Safaryan said. He stressed that the situation can be saved if Yerevan refrains from continuing the process.

Experts say that the Ankara-Tel Aviv confrontation may cause the Jewish lobby to support an Armenian Genocide resolution at the U.S. Congress. The Congress may consider the draft resolution either late this year or early next year. However, such forecasts have no impact on the anti-Israeli sentiments in Turkey. Specifically, Ankara urged Israel to contribute to peace in the Middle East, assuring Tel Aviv it will only benefit from that. It is time for the Israeli government to realize that not only the region, but also Israel itself will benefit from peace in the region. “When necessary, we will call a murderer, a murderer” Erdogan said, referring to Israel. The Turkish PM invited Israeli government not to repeat its mistakes, to apologize and make peace.
