YEREVAN. – A Kurdish state will be established in the Middle East, in the near future.

Director of the Institute of Orientology at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, historian and turkologist Ruben Safrastyan, stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Monday.

In his words, this is an irreversible process.

“This process is continuing and it will continue several years,” noted Safrastyan. “Geopolitically, this is the most important process in the Middle East. The Middle East is at the center of the conflict of interests of various power structures.”

The analyst added that this Kurdish state will have a large area, huge population, and rich natural resources—including energy resources, which will lead to new clashes in the region.

The Iraqi Kurdistan president’s aide had announced that an independence referendum will be conducted on September 25.
