A white little church can be seen from afar on a high cliff on the road to and from Martakert town in the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic/NKR). “Vankasar” is written on the road sign.

Vankasar Church, which was built in the 6th and 7th centuries, is located in the vicinity of the famous historic monument of Tigranakert.
There are gates not far from this abandoned church.

Its doors are fastened with stones so that cows do not “enter” this house of Christian worship.

The church is partly renovated inside, and it is located on a round square.

Vankasar Church is a unique impenetrable “fortress,” and an indescribable and unforgettable sight opens up from it.
