YEREVAN. - I don’t know who will be in power; it’s all the same to me, former defense minister of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan told journalists at the 11th Congress of Heritage Party held on Sunday.

Referring to the proposal of Heritage Party Leader Raffi Hovannisian to form a new united party, Ohanyan said: “We held discussions and our viewpoint is that there should certainly be a wide consolidation of powers and better organized activity. The work in that direction is underway. We will certainly inform about the formats and methods of our activity. In any case, our cooperation and close relations will continue.  We are not acting as a bloc now: we are acting in cooperation and we called for a wider consolidation.

Asked in which case there will be a street struggle, he responded: “I don’t know who will be in power; it’s all the same to me. The important thing is that the authorities carry out an activity for the progress of our country. I have always been for changes: they are the basis of development. It is important that there be responsibility and accountability to the people.”

In his words, having worked in the government system for a long time, he held several nationwide events, during which he noticed how sensitive people are to even one flaw in a given agency.

“In the agency headed by me, we identified 35-40 percent flaws so that they were eliminated. I see how sensitive people are to flaws, especially those in the election process. It is the flaws in the electoral process, which result in various flaws in the rest of the spheres.”

Touching on the power change, the former defense minister said: “The authorities should take steps for the country to develop. If they fail to do that, the people should decide to go out and demand that they either work or yield their seats.”
