YEREVAN. – It is rather difficult to expect something new on Karabakh issue, head of Caucasus Institute, analyst Alexander Iskandaryan told reporters on Monday.

“Actually I mean both the line of contact and what is going on in the negotiation process," the political scientist explained, adding that Azerbaijan adopted a strategy of maintaining tension and even provoking an escalation of the conflict from time to time.

Iskandaryan noted that neither co-chairs of OSCE Minsk Group, nor world community, have political means to influence Azerbaijan which is explained by lack of serious opportunities to influence Azerbaijan economically.

According to him, the strategy of the Azerbaijani side is directed just to extermination of people.

"The recent escalation is most likely related to two facts. First of all the visit of Johannes Hahn [EU Commissioner - ed.]. Secondly, they had to show something on their army day. It is difficult to stop such developments. I may be wrong, but I am afraid such escalations will happen from time to time," he added.
