YEREVAN. – The Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of Armenia has submitted petitions to the Ministry of Culture, with a request for conducting excavations this season at 33 archeological monuments, institute director Pavel Avetisyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his words, these excavations pursue various objectives. The bulk of these excavations are the basic scientific research by the institute. Some other excavations are carried out to save monuments, and others are conducted within the framework of restoration of monuments.

In particular, the institute is conducting a large-scale study of Stone Age and Bronze Age monuments.

“New information about the initial phases of the Armenian Highland residence has accumulated at us in recent years,” Avetisyan added. “New questions have emerged, and our excavations are aimed at finding the answers to these questions.”
