Armenia should conduct deeper policy to get out of blockade, Head of the Union of Domestic Goods Producers of Armenia, Vazgen Safaryan, told journalists on Wednesday.

In his words, the launch of railway linking Armenia with Iran would allow to partially solve this issue. ''Unfortunately, we often forget about this. This is a very serious omission,'' the expert said.

Safaryan is sure that if this project was implemented, it could have become the part and continuation of another project, the Great Silk Road. In his words, the current authorities had enough time for implementing this project but they missed that opportunity.

Head of the Association of Armenian Freight Forwarders (AAFF), Makar Arakelyan, for his part, noted that Armenia should look not so much in the southern but northern direction. In his words, an alternative to the Georgian road via Upper Lars should be looked for in Georgia. Arakelyan noted that the construction of the North-South highway is getting protracted, which is not what the Armenian side wants. The expert thinks the work cannot be completed by 2020. Everything depends on funds, he added. ''I think the program of Iran-Armenia railway construction is good in terms of politics. But in terms of economics it will never be able to ensure sufficient volumes,'' Arakelyan noted.

Iran is not interested in the construction of the aforementioned railway, since railway communication is very weakly developed there, the country having various other issues, he added.
