The European Parliament on Thursday approved a motion in connection with the proposals for the 72nd UN General Assembly session.

The resolution deals with human rights, international security, as well as a number of issues on conflicts. Despite the efforts of the Azerbaijani side, at the last stage of the discussion, an appendix was proposed with respect to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, containing inadmissible language that unambiguously emphasized the principle of territorial integrity and inviolability of internationally recognized borders while ignoring the principles of equality of peoples and the right to self-determination.

Nevertheless, thanks to the efforts of Armenia’s permanent representation at the EU, the initiative failed, and the final text of the resolution specifies both the right of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh to self-determination and the principle of the inadmissibility of the use of force or the threat of its use.

During the vote at the plenary session, the initiative of the Armenian side on securing the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination received an overwhelming majority of votes.
