Nearly 250,000 people were left without electricity as a result of snowfall in Chile, BBC reports.

According to the source, the snow, which hit capital city Santiago, resulted in the death of one man, who was clearing the ice. Another two suffered injuries by a fallen power transmission line, RIA Novosti reports.

Apart from power cuts, the calamity has caused traffic disruptions in the capital. Several sport events have been canceled.
