YEREVAN. – Armenia is grateful to Russia for its assistance to the settlement of Karabakh conflict, parliament speaker Ara Babloyan said during his meeting with the head of Russia’s Federation Council Valentina Matvviyenko.

“I want to thank Russia for its assistance and position in the OSCE Minsk Group aimed at resolving the Karabakh conflict peacefully. We believe that there is no alternative, and the issue should be solved exclusively by peaceful means, through dialogue,” Babloyan said.

He added that on 4 July a provocation was committed against Karabakh again. According to him, the worst thing is that the civilian population suffers in shelling.

On July 4 evening, the Azerbaijani armed forces, which are located nearby Alkhanli village, fired shells on the positions of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) Defense Army. A 52-year-old Azerbaijani woman and a 2-year-old girl died in the ensuing exchange of fire.
