President Erdogan should not be welcomed in the U.S for a visit until he apologizes for the behavior of his body guards, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher said during “Stand for Free Speech” event at Sheridan Circle on Wednesday.

“We will not stop until the dictatorship that has been  formed in Turkey is defeated,” Congressman said.

Rohrabacher emphasized that Erdogan beat people in Washington but it is nothing compared with brutality that he shows towards his own people in Turkey who “are being led by someone who wants to turn Turkey into Islamic dictatorship”.

Congressman Ted Poe shared his view. He added that those involved in the incident need to be held accountable, while Erdogan has to apologize.

“It’s very disturbing that a person has taken a wonderful group of Turkish citizens and changed country into dictatorship,” he added.

The July 19th gathering comes a month after Washington, DC law enforcement issued 18 arrest warrants – including a dozen against Turkish President Recep Erdogan’s bodyguards and two Canadians of Turkish origin. Two Americans of Turkish heritage have already been arrested for assault and various related crimes
