Mexico was hit by its strongest earthquake in a century early Friday, killing at least five people and triggering a series of tsunami waves, AP reported.

The US Geological Survey said the quake had a magnitude of 8.0 and its epicentre was 165 km (102 miles) west of Tapachula in southern Chiapas state not far from Guatemala. It had a depth of 35 km (22 miles).
