As a result of their brief contact behind the scenes during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Đà Nẵng, Vietnam, Russian and US presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump have approved a joint statement on Syria, reported TASS Russian News Agency.

The document was prepared by experts from both countries, and its final text was agreed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that this statement was specially prepared for the meeting in Đà Nẵng.
