The Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) have informed that the South Korean and the American naval forces have begun joint exercises in waters of the Korean Peninsula, and with the participation of three US nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, reported TASS Russian News Agency.

According to a statement by these joint chiefs, the objective of these large-scale exercises is to demonstrate the power to restrain North Korea.

Eleven American warships, which are equipped with the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System, also will take part in these four-day maneuvers.
