Turkish embassy in Washington dismissed media reports about Ankara's attempts to achieve extradition of Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen in secret talks with the American official, RIA Novosti reported.

Earlier Wall Street Journal published an article saying Michael Flynn, former national security adviser of President Trump, has been allegedly holding talks with the Turkish government on extradition of Gulen to Ankara for $15 million. Flynn's lawyers have already rejected reports.

“As we stated earlier, all the assumptions that Turkey resorted to the ways that go beyond the law for his extradition are absolutely false, absurd and groundless,” the statement says.

The embassy also stressed that the authorities still hope for the speedy extradition of the preacher, who is accused by Turkey of organizing a coup attempt on the night of July 15-16, 2016.

Federal investigators are examining Michael Flynn’s activities as Turkish lobbyist. As it became known earlier, Flynn registered in this capacity in the US Justice Department and completed this work before the presidential elections in November last year.

Reuters previously reported that Turkey hired Flynn to conduct a study on how the opposition Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen was poisoning the atmosphere between Turkey and U.S.
