The death toll in the earthquake that struck near the Iran-Iraq border has risen to 140 in Iran, according to Press TV of the country.

The Red Crescent reported that nearly 70,000 Iranians have been left homeless and need temporary shelter.

The authorities are undertaking all necessary measures to help the victims.

The quake had occurred on Sunday evening. 

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, it measured magnitude 7.2 on the Richter scale.
