YEREVAN. – The Armenia-Iran railway construction is not economically beneficial at this time.

Gagik Minasyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia, said the abovementioned at Wednesday’s parliamentary debates on the draft of the 2018 State Budget of the country.

“Construction of the railway should be economically beneficial,” he noted. “Of course there are countries that carry out such big projects purely from the political viewpoint. [But] Armenia doesn’t have that opportunity to implement such a political program by its [own] means.

“Of course there are countries that can assist in the construction of such a railway. But today, we [Armenia] don’t have such offers.

“Calculations from the economic point of view are such that those big investments can’t ensure those revenues that cover those expenses.”

In Minasyan’s words, the North-South Highway in Armenia can considerably work out the problems which the construction of the Armenia-Iran railway would resolve.
