Belgium’s friendly international against Japan was almost cancelled on November 14 because of terrorist threats, AFP reported quoting Belgian media.

During wiretapping operations, Brussels police heard a talk of a planned attack at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

“We didn’t know if we were going to play an hour before the match,” Belgian Football Association spokesperson Stefaan Van Loock said.

The authorities decided not to cancel the game, but security outside the stadium was strengthened.

As a result of the checks, several hundred spectators didn’t enter the ground until half an hour after kick-off.

France commemorated the second anniversary of the Paris attacks on November 13. The terrorist attack, which claimed lives of 130 people, began at the Stade de France stadium.
