Catalonia has no future under the rule of Madrid in current situation, said deposed Catalan president Carles Puigdemont on Alex Salmond’s first Show.

Catalonia has no future as a part of Spain in such circumstances, said Puigdemont at an undisclosed location in Belgium, TASS reported.

Carles Puigdemont said there was an “an intellectual incapacity” on the part of the Spanish government “to admit the possibility, the real possibility, that Spain could be different in future”.

Carles Puigdemont urged Madrid, the EU authorities, and the representatives of the UN to meet with “his government” to put an end political crisis and find an opportunity for Catalonia to move forward.

The Catalan independence referendum was held on October 1 and  had been declared illegal by the Spanish government and courts. 

The Parliament of Catalonia approved a resolution on the proclamation of independence on October 27. The Constitutional Court declared the document invalid on November 8.

The Senate of Spain approved Madrid’s request for the implementation of Article 155, which allowed to limit the self-government of Catalonia.

According to Mariano Rajoy, it had been decided to suspend Carles Puigdemont and his government from office. 

The prime minister dissolved the parliament of Catalonia and appointed the elections in the autonomous region on December 21.
