The agreement was reached with President Robert Mugabe to address the political crisis in the country, Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Constantino Guveya Nyikadzino Chiwenga said in a television statement on Tuesday, The Herald reported. 

“The Zimbabwean Defence and Security Services further urge Zimbabweans to remain calm and patient” while “a solution and road map is found for the country”, said army chief.

Ousted Zimbabwean vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa confirmed the negotiations with Mugabe, but refused to return home for his own protection.

According to News24, Zimbabwean army opposed the commencement of the impeachment procedure of President Mugabe in Parliament. Its position calls for the transition of power from Mugabe to Mnangagwa due to ZANU-PF.
