YEREVAN. – Past (Fact) newspaper of Armenia recently had received an alert that when transporting cars from the Russian Federation (RF) to the Republic of Armenia (RA), the drivers of the cars were informed, when crossing the Russian-Georgian border at Lars checkpoint, that they cannot drive vehicles in Georgia with RF transit license plates, they were suggested to have Georgian transit license plates issued, and then to continue on their travel.

“Naturally, the drivers who applied to us agreed. However, after crossing the Armenian-Georgian border, the drivers were fined 200,000 [Armenian] drams [about US$414] for an incomprehensible reason to them, and the imported cars appeared at the traffic police impound.

“Past petitioned to the RA Police news service to open the ‘gashes’ of this incomprehensible story.

“They informed us from the service that Georgia passed such a law about 10 days ago, proceeding from the fact that the neighboring country [Georgia] is not an EAEU [(Eurasian Economic Union)] member and is actually considered a third country, and provides transit license plates to travel through its territory, which, however, does not obstruct the vehicles from reaching our [Armenia] police with the transit license plates provided by the Georgian side and processing the documents of the vehicles imported from the RF,” wrote Past.
