Eliminated from the post of the head of Catalonia by the government of Spain, Carles Puigdemont does not intend to seek political asylum in Belgium and is ready to meet with the Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. He stated this during the live broadcasting of the German radio station Deutschlandfunk, Tass reports.

Puigdemont said that he definitely would not ask for political asylum in Belgium. He claimed that he was never a refugee, despite the false reports spread by the Spanish press. According to the former head of Catalonia, he came to Brussels legally and never hid from anyone.

Puigdemont stated that he “sent countless number of proposals for dialogue to Rajoy”, but he literally rejected those saying that he can’t and doesn’t want to. Puigdemont said that he wants and must speak with the prime minister, and hold a two-way conversation because problems, such as the problem of Catalonia, are not present in any other autonomies of Spain.

The former head of Catalonia added that they need a meeting, a dialogue. In his opinion, Madrid cannot continue to insist on maintaining the status quo, because it is a part of today's problem.
