Earthjustice, a US-based non-profit public interest law organization dedicated to environmental issues, on Monday filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s decision to reduce the area of two large reserves, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.

The suit has been filed on behalf of eight ecological and environmental organizations, which accuse Trump of violating the Antiquities Act of 1906.

According to Trump’s orders that were publicized on Monday, the areas of 5,500-square-kilometer Bears Ears and 7,600-square-kilometer Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments will be reduced. The first one, which was established in 2016 by the decree of then President Barack Obama, is planned to be cut down by about 90 percent. And the second one, which was established in 1996 by former President Bill Clinton, will be shrunk by virtually twice.
