The European Union (EU) is deeply concerned by US President Donald Trump’s decision to relocate the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and to recognize the latter as the capital city of Israel, and it calls on the parties in the region to show restraint.

EU’s diplomatic chief Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, noted about the aforesaid in a statement, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.  

“The European Union expresses serious concern about today’s [Wednesday] announcement by the United States President Trump on Jerusalem and the repercussions this may have on the prospect of peace,” the statement reads, in particular. “The EU position remains unchanged. The aspirations of both parties must be fulfilled and a way must be found through negotiations to resolve the status of Jerusalem as the future capital of both states [Israel and Palestine].”
