YEREVAN.- Signing of the Armenia-EU agreement is a historical event, said Jonathan Lacôte, French Ambassador to Armenia, at a press conference on Tuesday.

According to him, it is necessary to realize that the agreement is unique among its kind.

"This is the only agreement for today, signed with the EAEU member state. The importance and interest of the agreement is that Armenia, being a member of the EAEU, can have special relations with the EU, "the ambassador said, stressing that the European essence of Armenia is beyond doubt, and, naturally, each country should choose its own system of values.

"But the peculiarity of the agreement is that it opens new prospects for Armenia," the ambassador said.

The ambassador noted that the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, which apart from general provisions, gives an opportunity to develop cooperation in specific areas: "That is, following the reforms in Armenia, the legislation should be brought into line with European standards and give the opportunity to participate in pan-European programs. It won't be noticeable at once.

As the ambassador noted, thanks to the document Armenia can become an important link in the region, a bridge between the EAEU and the EU. Jonathan Lacôte also noted the interest that the Iranian market represents.
