YEREVAN. – The Republic of Armenia National Assembly (RA NA) parliamentary delegation—led by the RA NA Vice Chairman, the Head of the RA NA Armenia-Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia Friendship Group, Eduard Sharmazanov—on Wednesday met with members of the Lithuania-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group, and within the framework of its working visit to Lithuania.

The interlocutors also exchanged thoughts on one of the key issues of the RA foreign political agenda: the international recognition and condemnation of Armenian Genocide the NA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am. In this connection, the RA NA deputy speaker noted that next year will mark the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide by the UN General Assembly, and added that genocide is the greatest crime committed against mankind and it has no statute of limitations.

“Lithuania belongs to the countries that have recognized Armenian Genocide,” Eduard Sharmazanov stated. “We hope that the parliaments of other Baltic countries will follow the example of Lithuania. I will note with regret that today’s Turkish authorities pursue a policy of denial. Denialism is equal to committing genocide. We, the parliamentarians, are obligated to be united in fighting against condemnation of genocides, as well as the Turkish denialism.”
