The political leaders of European Union (EU) countries demarcated from the change of US President Donald Trump’s course with respect to the matter of the status of Jerusalem.
European Council President Donald Tusk on Thursday announced, on behalf of the heads of 28 EU member states participating in the summit in Brussels, that the EU stance on this matter remains unchanged, reported the Deutsche Welle (DW) TV and radio company of Germany.
On December 6, US President Donald Trump stated that he recognizes Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel, and said the US Department of State has been ordered to start transferring the US embassy in Israel, from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
But this decision brought about worldwide reaction.
Immediately after the publicizing of this decision by Trump, the EU representatives noted that this US move may undermine the peace process in the Middle East, and the implementation of the plan to establish two states.
And the EU summit on Thursday reaffirmed its commitment to this very option of resolving the Middle East issue.
