YEREVAN. – After not getting any results in discussions with the state bodies, the “For the Development of Science [in Armenia]” initiative has decided to end discussions with the authorities, and to continue the struggle from where it stopped.

Davit Petrosyan, a member of the aforesaid initiative, on Monday stated about the abovementioned on his Facebook page.

In his words, their talks with Armenia’s authorities showed that these negotiations are not constructive, but rather a formality.

Petrosyan added that their struggle had stopped during their hunger strike, and now, their fight will start from where it stopped; that is, they are resuming their hunger strike.

On November 15, the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia passed the law on Military Service and the Status of Military Servicemen, and this law considerably limits the right to military deferment in the country.

The “For the Development of Science” initiative members and numerous university students, however, oppose this law arguing that it law will hamper the development of science in the country. And in protest of this law, some of them went on hunger strike and many other university students did not attend classes. But after a meeting with NA Chairman Ara Babloyan and Vice Chairman Eduard Sharmazanov, they had decided to stop their fight against this law and to hold respective talks with the authorities.
