Palestine has criticized the use of veto on the UN Security Council resolution that denounces recognizing of Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel.

The US on Monday exercised its veto power on the resolution, reported The Associated Press (AP). 

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ adviser said this veto goes against the international consensus, underscores Washington’s growing international isolation, and “will not help in creating peace in the region.” 

Turkey also criticized the US over this veto. A Turkish Foreign Ministry statement said the fact that the resolution was approved by the 14 other UN Security Council members is “the most concrete indication of the illegitimacy” of the US decision on Jerusalem.

Russia, on the other hand, announced that it is ready to become “an honest mediator” between the Israelis and Palestinians.

On December 6, US President Donald Trump stated, that he recognizes Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel, and said the US Department of State has been ordered to start transferring the US embassy in Israel, from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

But this decision has brought about worldwide reaction.
