American Foreign Policy Council analyst Stephen Blank told the Voice of America that the new US sanctions on Russian military industry companies can keep other countries away from purchasing Russian arms.

In his words, even though some exceptions probably will be made for some buyers of Russian weapons, those buying large quantities of weapons from Russia, including Armenia and Azerbaijan, can meet surprises.

As per Blank, it is in the interests of Armenia to free itself from Moscow’s pressures and to establish equal relations with everyone.

According to Atlantic Council analyst, Ambassador John Herbst, new sanctions are indispensable considering Russia’s attempts to restore the Soviet Union.

Ambassador Herbst, who had been to Armenia back in the Soviet times, recalled that the country was among the islets of liberty and intellect in the final years of the Soviet Union.
