YEREVAN. – The driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal crash that claimed lives of two police officers in Yerevan has been detained.

After colliding with the police car, the BMW X6 had crashed into a roadside billboard and ended up on the pavement, whereas its driver fled the scene. Police officer A. Davtyan was killed at the site, while another officer Kh. Gasparyan has been taken to medical center where he died several hours later.

Two passengers of BMW were injured, Armenian investigation committee said in a statement. The driver was identified as Sargis Vardanyan and was later detained.  

An investigation has been launched. According to some reports, Vardanyan is a son of a crime boss.
