About 3.7 thousand people have been detained during the protests in various cities of Iran for several days from the end of 2017, said Reformist member of Iran’s parliament Mahmoud Sadeghi, RIA Novosti reported quoting ICANA agency.

“Given the fact that these individuals were detained by various law enforcement and security agencies, it is impossible to name the exact number,” said Sadeghi, adding that the total number of detainees around the country is about 3.7 thousand people.

As reported earlier, the Iranian authorities detained the main organizers of the protest actions.

Mass demonstrations have hit Iranian cities since December 28.  Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the protests are caused by internal problems in the country and by incitement from other countries. At least 450 people were detained for the last three days during the protests in Tehran.

According to the Press TV, 20 people were killed, including one police officer during the protest actions
